Charles-Edouard Jeanneret Gris is a name that might not be familiar to even the most die-hard design expert.  But say the name Le Corbusier, which Gris adopted as his moniker, and you're saying the name of a modernist legend.  Le Corbusier was an architect, interior designer and furniture designer who dominated the modernist scene for four decades, beginning in the 1920s.  His take on the club chair, Le Grand Confort armchair and its many permutations, is as relevant today as it was when it was first introduced in 1929 – unlike some of his more "out-there" ideals of utopian living.  But love or hate Le Corb's vision, a retrospective of his work is definitely a design-world event. 

That's why the Corbusier exhibition launched earlier this month in a church crypt in Liverpool, is creating such a stir.  "Le Corbusier:  The Art of Architecture" is the first major exhibition of the architect and designer's work in more than 20 years.  Spanning 3300 square feet, it features specially-created models of Le Corb's interior designs, reconstructions of original architectural models and some original models and pieces of furniture.  The exhibit runs through mid-January next year, so if you're a design fanatic and will be in the UK, this is definitely a must-see.
