If you're lucky enough to be heading to the 2008 Olympics the August, you'll want to check out two of the coolest hotels of the new millennium. The first is the new Mandarin Oriental, part of the groundbreaking, Rem Koolhaas-designed CCTV Tower. While the hotel building is adjacent to Koolhaas's twisting, looping, 230-meter tower, it is no less � well, maybe a little less spectacular. But it's definitely the closest you can come to staying in one of the most talked-about buildings of the year. Inside, Mandarin Oriental promises to wow guests with "strikingly contemporary" décor, floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views and rain showers in every bathroom.

An equally impressive choice requires an hour and fifteen minute drive out of the city, but surely you're not planning a trip to China without taking a peek at the Great Wall? When you get there, you'll also want to check out Kempinski's Commune by the Great Wall. More than a hotel, the Commune is a collection of 12 ultra-modern villas designed by 12 of Asia's top architects, with views of the surrounding mountains and � of course � the wall itself.
