Perhaps, given the current political climate, it was time for the
family to move on and stake their claim in an all-new arena. But
whatever the reason, the newest member of the Bush clan to gain fame is
doing it in the rag trade. Lauren Bush, niece of our 43rd president
and granddaughter of our 41st, recently introduced her first collection
of ready-to-wear styles, a line of clothing that is – you might want to
sit down for this one – eco friendly! Could that be why Ms. Bush
decided to call her line Lauren Pierce instead of Lauren Bush?  The
onetime Tommy Hilfiger model is playing coy, saying "it wasn't a
conscious decision."
What is a conscious decision, however, is
Ms. Bush's – or Lauren's – emphasis on the use of sustainable
materials.  Her 15-piece capsule line is made of fabrics including
hemp, bamboo and organic cotton, and range from a $52 t-shirt to a $345
cape. Some of the fabrics were even hand dyed by underprivileged women
from the Democratic Republic of the Congo thanks to Lauren's alliance
with Women for Women International, which helps underprivileged woman
improve their lives through work. Which makes Lauren Bush, or Pierce,
one member of the Bush clan the entire country can get behind.
