Aether - sculpted curved sofa

The Aether sofa reads less as furniture and more as a soft architectural gesture - an exploration of weightlessness expressed through mass. Its intent is clear: to dissolve the rigidity of traditional seating and replace it with something atmospheric, almost cloudlike, where form flows uninterrupted and comfort becomes spatial rather than object-based.

Aether is conceived as a continuous landscape rather than a fixed piece. Its sweeping curvature and asymmetrical profile invite a more fluid way of inhabiting space - lounging, reclining, drifting. The low, horizon-like stance reinforces a grounded calm, while the absence of visible structure gives it an almost levitating presence. It’s not about sitting on the sofa, but settling into it - an intentional blurring between furniture and environment.

Visually, Aether embraces sculptural minimalism softened by tactility. The monolithic body is wrapped in a richly textured bouclé—an intricate, almost pointillist weave that adds depth and movement across its expansive surfaces. This fabric choice is critical: it breaks the purity of the silhouette just enough, catching light and shadow to animate the form throughout the day.

The backrest- gently arcing and slightly offset - acts as a quiet gesture rather than a rigid boundary. It frames the seating zone without enclosing it, maintaining openness while offering subtle ergonomic support. The proportions are intentionally generous and low-slung, echoing the language of contemporary design - effortless, confident, and deeply tactile.

Accent cushions, in muted mineral tones- dusty rose, ochre, plum - punctuate the composition like brushstrokes, reinforcing the sofa’s identity as both object and canvas.

Construction:

Beneath its softness lies a rigorously engineered core. Aether is built on a solid hardwood internal frame, CNC-shaped to achieve its continuous curvature without segmentation. High-resilience polyurethane foams of varying densities are layered to sculpt the form - firmer at the base for structure, progressively softer toward the surface for that enveloping, “sink-in” comfort.

The upholstery is fully tailored and tensioned to preserve the integrity of the silhouette - no sagging, no visual breaks - requiring advanced patterning to accommodate the compound curves. The bouclé itself is selected not only for aesthetics but for durability and recovery, ensuring longevity in both residential and hospitality settings.

A recessed plinth base - barely perceptible - creates the illusion of floating mass. Finished in a darkened tone, it visually disappears, allowing the volume above to hover effortlessly.

In essence, Aether is a study in contrast: substantial yet light, sculptural yet inviting, minimal yet richly tactile. It doesn’t demand attention—it quietly commands it.
